Riad Darino · FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before your stay in the heart of Marrakech's Medina.

Where is Riad Darino located in Marrakech?

+

Riad Darino sits in a quiet derb (alley) of the historic Marrakech Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Jemaa el-Fna square is about a 12–15 minute walk away, with the souks, the Ben Youssef Madrasa and the major monuments of the old city all within easy reach.

How do I get from Marrakech (RAK) airport to Riad Darino?

+

We strongly recommend booking a private transfer via our trusted partner getme.ma — guaranteed flat rate, English-speaking driver, meet & greet at the arrivals gate. The drive takes 15–20 minutes.

What is a riad, and how is it different from a hotel?

+

A riad is a traditional Moroccan house built around an inner courtyard, typically with no more than 5–8 rooms. Unlike hotels, riads offer intimate, home-like hospitality, hand-crafted architecture (zellige tilework, cedar carving, tadelakt walls), and a deep connection to local life. Riad Darino has 5 rooms.

Is the medina of Marrakech safe, including at night?

+

Yes. The Marrakech Medina is one of the safest historic centers in North Africa, with constant local activity day and night. Our staff is happy to escort you back to the riad after dinner if you wish, and we can arrange a trusted local guide for evening explorations.

What is included in your Moroccan breakfast?

+

A full traditional breakfast is included every morning: msemen and beghrir pancakes, Moroccan breads (khobz), house-made jams and honey, fresh seasonal fruit, freshly squeezed orange juice, mint tea and coffee. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and kosher options on request.

Do you serve dinner at the riad?

+

Yes. Our chef prepares a traditional Moroccan dinner (table d'hôte) on request — tagines, couscous, pastilla, seasonal vegetable starters. Dinner is not included in the room rate but can be booked the morning of, or in advance. Dietary needs (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, kosher) are accommodated.

Can I privatize the entire riad?

+

Yes. The full 5-bedroom riad can be privatized for families, groups of friends, weddings, retreats or private celebrations. Privatization includes exclusive use of the courtyard, rooftop terrace, lounges and dedicated staff. Contact us for tailored pricing.

Do the rooms have air conditioning?

+

Most rooms have air conditioning. The Marrakech ground-floor room is naturally cool in summer thanks to the riad's century-old thermal-mass walls. All rooms have ensuite bathrooms, free Wi-Fi, fresh linens and complimentary toiletries.

How far is Riad Darino from Jemaa el-Fna?

+

About a 12–15 minute walk through the medina alleys. Our staff will guide you on arrival, and a hand-drawn local map is provided in each room.

Can you organize day trips (Ourika, Atlas, Sahara, Essaouira)?

+

Yes — our concierge arranges curated day trips to the Atlas Mountains, the Ourika valley waterfalls, the seaside town of Essaouira, and multi-day expeditions to the Merzouga Sahara dunes. We work with vetted local drivers and Berber guides.

Is the traditional hammam experience available?

+

Yes. We arrange visits to a centuries-old neighbourhood hammam, including black soap, kessa scrub and argan oil massage. In-riad massage with a private practitioner can also be booked on request.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

+

Check-in from 3:00 PM, check-out before 12:00 PM. Early check-in and late check-out are possible on request, subject to availability. Self check-in is available with the building staff.

Do you accept children, families, or pets?

+

Children and families are warmly welcome — we recommend the Ourika or Meknes rooms for their flexible bedding options (king or twin beds). Pets are allowed on request — please let us know in advance so we can prepare the room accordingly.

What is the cancellation policy?

+

For direct bookings, cancellation is free up to 15 days before arrival. Within 15 days the reservation is non-refundable and the full stay is due — for deposit bookings, the balance may be charged to your card. Booking.com and Airbnb reservations follow each platform's own policy.

What payment methods do you accept?

+

Direct bookings are prepaid securely online by card via Stripe: a 50% deposit, or pay 100% upfront and save 5%. Bank transfer is also available. Any balance is settled at the riad. Booking.com and Airbnb reservations follow each platform's payment system.

Are smoke and carbon monoxide detectors installed?

+

Yes. Smoke detectors and CO detectors are installed in every bedroom and in the kitchen, in compliance with international safety standards. A first aid kit and fire extinguisher are also available on-site.

How do I book Riad Darino directly?

+

Book directly on www.riaddarino.com in real time: choose your room and dates and receive instant confirmation after secure payment. Direct booking includes exclusive perks — free round-trip airport transfer and tourist tax from 3 nights. WhatsApp remains available for any question.

Is Wi-Fi available throughout the riad?

+

Yes — high-speed Wi-Fi is free and available in every room, the courtyard, and on the rooftop terrace. For your outings, you can also add an outdoor pocket WiFi router to your direct booking (€4/day, never more than €15 per stay): a small device you take with you for unlimited internet in the souks and on excursions, without using your mobile plan, roaming or a local SIM. You receive it at check-in and return it at check-out.
